REVIEWS
“Tina Berendsohn’s paintings fuse the visible and the unseen world through an explosive expression of emotion and character. From figurative forms to abstract expressive strokes, these works dance in between the fundamentals of time and space. Often, they remind us that the world is a complex parallax of experiences and emotions. Berendsohn’s work peels new layers of such complex realities with every work she makes.”

„Tina hat aufregende Bildideen.“

“Berendsohn manipulates colours so that they appear
to dance and perform upon the canvas, wood, and paper. Using intuitive impulse coupled with technical calculation, human connections and living spaces form the centre of her figurative paintings.”
INSELGALERIE BERLIN
Hamburg artist, Tina Berendsohn, paints an intuitive flow of electric wisdom on canvas. Her abstract, figurative style melts perfectly into German expressionism. Fresh and risky, her oil paintings revive the psyche with organic movement and pops of color. Her latest series demands attention. The abstract layering within the artist’s expressionistic work is powered by intuition. Berendsohn pours raw emotion and universal human struggles into a flow of vivid color. Her expressionistic style dances between spontaneity and confident brushstrokes. The paintings leave a healing taste of freedom in the mouth of conformity. Her work is the revolution to freedom within abstract figurative art; embracing the spontaneity of letting go within the creative process. Berendsohn’s work challenges the idea of conformity and embraces listening intuitively. The mis-en-scene meets an abstract daydream, full of exquisite color within her paintings. The act of listening to intuition is part of her creative process. She channels a seamless flow of serendipity through her color scheme, making her portraits bleed raw, expressionistic beauty. These oil paintings connect freedom to inner wisdom and intuition. Berendsohn visually expresses her emotions, struggles, and reaps the benefits of letting the ebb and flow of being breathe life into her creations. Grown up in Spain and living in Hamburg, Germany, Berendsohn stays emotionally charged through creating. Her creative process encapsulates an intimate, brave space of trusting spontaneity.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My process of painting is about allowing the subconscious to express. I tend to seek the raw and instinctive path. The human figure with its gestures, human emotion and relationships is my strongest inspiration. Working as a dancer and therapist refined my perception of physical expression, sensing the emotion and the potential behind movements and gestures. I also draw a lot of inspiration from nature.
Painting for me is both about consciously using technique as well as losing control in the course of creating. I am drawn to expressive physicality, strong colors, lots of layering and abstraction while mixing techniques and styles to create a work that springs from the inner necessity to be open for the moment.
In my search for authentic expression I am beginning to understand that the essence of painting is found within the unsaid, abstract and unplanned while working consciously with realistic elements, as well as composition and color.
I get excited when I don’t quite know how a painting is going to evolve, actually I like to interact with the piece of work and be surprised by the process of painting. I enjoy to leave a painting at a point where questions are still open and the viewer is left with his own imagination.
